Human Trafficking Institute (HTI) exists to decimate modern slavery at its source by empowering police and prosecutors to stop traffickers. Working inside criminal justice systems, HTI provides the embedded experts, world-class training, investigative resources, and evidence-based research necessary to free victims.
General Description – Uganda
Human Trafficking Institute seeks applicants with legal programs and report writing experience for a Legal Programs Associate position based in Kampala Uganda. This position will assist with implementation of HTI's goals as established through partnerships with the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Uganda Police Force (UPF), and Judiciary of Uganda (JOU). Additionally, this position will collaborate and work closely with governmental and non-governmental anti-trafficking stakeholders to further the mission and agenda of HTI. This position will report directly to the Legal Programs Manager in Uganda.
Responsibilities
- Report writing, including but not limited to internal monthly, quarterly and annual reports, external partner reports, and donor reports
- Supporting HTI's Regional Response Teams through compiling internal reports, including monthly reports, training reports, and travel itineraries
- Assist in collecting case successes and drafting stories for internal and external communication
- Conduct legal research related to human trafficking prosecutions and related criminal justice processes
- Collect and organize relevant TIP resources, guides, and other materials as they become available from legal partners and other anti-trafficking organizations
- Carry out desk research for concept notes, briefing notes, summary status reports, and donor narrative reports
- Attend relevant meetings with CATIPU, COPTIP, and related partners, as required
- Monitor legal policy and statutory changes that may impact TIP
- Coordinate with HTI team members assigned to data collection/analysis to undertake research and learnings for MERL purpose
- Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
- Attend meetings, retreats, and other HTI events, as required
- Provide ongoing program support to ensure completion of HTI's objectives and key results in Uganda
- Generate new and innovative ideas to advance HTI's mission and model
- Carry out additional assignments at the County Director's or Legal Programs Manager's request
Skills and Experience
- Degree in Law (LLB) required
- Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice required
- Valid Practicing Certificate preferred
- Program coordination experience preferred
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Ability to quickly and independently produce a professional work product
- Experience working as a team and managing multiple tasks
- Self-motivated and articulate
- Organized, meticulous attention to detail
- Experience operating in an international context highly preferred
- Subject matter expertise in human trafficking preferred

Please Note: This is a full-time position with benefits. It is based in Kampala, Uganda. Gross salary is 4.0-5.0 million Uganda Shillings, commiserate with experience.
